Is an ultrasound scan safe for my baby?+

Yes, completely. Ultrasound uses sound waves — not X-rays or radiation. It is safe at every stage of pregnancy including the first trimester. It has been used safely in pregnancy for over 40 years worldwide.

How many scans do I need during pregnancy?+

At minimum, three scans are recommended — one in each trimester. The 1st trimester scan confirms pregnancy and due date, the 2nd trimester anomaly scan checks for abnormalities, and the 3rd trimester scan monitors growth and position before delivery. Additional scans may be recommended for high-risk pregnancies.

Do I need to drink water before my scan?+

For a pelvic or lower abdominal scan, a full bladder helps give a better image. Drink about 3–4 glasses of water one hour before and do not empty your bladder before the scan. For upper abdominal scans, fasting for 4–6 hours is recommended. Our staff will advise you when you book.

How do I know which scan I need?+

Can I get an emergency scan at night or on a Sunday?+

How long does an ultrasound scan take?+

Most scans take 15–30 minutes. The detailed anomaly scan (2nd trimester) may take slightly longer. After the scan, Dr. Parimala Desai will review and discuss the findings with you directly, so please allow a little extra time for the consultation.
